Asymptotic representation of nonradial g+-modes in stars with a convective core

چکیده
The asymptotic representation of linear, isentropic, low-frequency g+-modes in spherically symmetric stars developedbySmeyers et al. (1995) is extended tomore realistic stellar models composed of a convective core in adiabatic equilibrium and a radiative envelope. Bymeans of a boundary-layermethod, it is taken into account that the transition from the convective core to the radiative envelope is a turning point for one of the governing differential equations in the divergence and the radial component of the Lagrangian displacement.

Asymptotic approximations of low-frequency gravity modes in stars with a convective core and a radiative envelope
We develop lowest-order asymptotic approximations for the eigenfrequencies and eigenfunctions of linear, isentropic, low-frequency g-modes in stars consisting of a convective core and radiative envelope. The approximations are derived from a fourth-order system of differential equations in the divergence and radial component of the Lagrangian displacement without neglecting the Eulerian perturb...
متن کاملStochastic excitation of gravity modes in massive main-sequence stars
We investigate the possibility that gravity modes can be stochastically excited by turbulent convection in massive main-sequence (MS) stars. We build stellar models of MS stars with masses M = 10M ,15M , and 20M . For each model, we then compute the power supplied to the modes by turbulent eddies in the convective core (CC) and the outer convective zones (OCZ). We found that, for asymptotic gra...
متن کاملCan mass loss and overshooting prevent the excitation of g-modes in blue supergiants?
Thanks to their past history on the main sequence phase, supergiant massive stars develop a convective shell around the helium core. This intermediate convective zone (ICZ) plays an essential role in governing which g-modes are excited. Indeed a strong radiative damping occurs in the high density radiative core but the ICZ acts as a barrier preventing the propagation of some g-modes into the co...
متن کاملStochastic excitation of nonradial modes II . Are solar asymptotic gravity modes detectable ?
Context. Detection of solar gravity modes remains a major challenge to our understanding of the innerparts of the Sun. Their frequencies would enable the derivation of constraints on the core physical properties while their amplitudes can put severe constraints on the properties of the inner convective region. Aims. Our purpose is to determine accurate theoretical amplitudes of solar g modes an...
متن کاملAsteroseismic Signatures of Evolving Internal Stellar Magnetic Fields
Recent asteroseismic analyses indicate the presence of strong (B 10 G) magnetic fields in the cores of many red giant stars. Here, we examine the implications of these results for the evolution of stellar magnetic fields, and we make predictions for future observations. Those stars with suppressed dipole modes indicative of strong core fields should exhibit moderate but detectable quadrupole ...
